Job Description

Youth Director

Reports To:      NexGen Pastor                Classification:       Part-time 15 hrs/wk

Ministry:            Family Ministry                FLSA Status:         Non-Exempt

KINGDOM PURPOSE

Promote the Kingdom of God in leading staff and volunteers in Family Ministry, Worship, and Pastoral Care and performing Pastoral Duties to further the Mission and Vision of Faith Community UMC.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES

 Youth Ministry: Disciple Youth (7th–12th grades) Develop a thriving Youth Ministry by providing programs and resources to build the next generation of Christ followers.

  • Vision and plan new ways to grow Youth Ministries to strengthen our Faith Community in worship, group life and service giving special attention to fellowship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and outreach
  • Provide clear, effective, timely communication of youth opportunities and programming (including long-term planning) to students, families, and the congregation
  • Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries
  • Oversee, Plan, and Execute trips, retreats, & special events including mission-focused opportunities
  • Develop, Plan & Execute weekly Sunday Night Youth Ministry including the recruitment, development and equipping of volunteers with attention given to:
    • Weekly small groups that focus on relational and spiritual development
    • Weekly and monthly events that build community and teach from the Bible
  • Maintain and Manage Youth Ministries budget and related business issues including managing funds needed for events, trips, youth supplies, etc.
  • Help to develop ministries that bridge age-level ministries such as pre-teen to youth
  • Empower and equip incoming students as they transition into Youth Ministry, while honoring and building on the foundation established in Children’s Ministry

Relationship: Build and Maintain Healthy Relationships with Youth and Families Develop healthy and growing relationships by providing opportunities for building community.

  • Be present in youth’s lives, both at FCUMC and in the community
  • Demonstrate strong interest in youth’s lives and spiritual development
  • Provide an atmosphere where others are accepted, and healthy relationships are formed & practiced 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Active Participant of Staff Teams...i.e. core team, family ministries team
  • Active Participant of Youth and Family Ministry Teams
  • Hopewell Middle School Liaison
  • Boy Scout Liaison for Troop 990

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Proven experience working with Youth and leading Youth Volunteer Teams
  • Paid Staff/Supervisory experience preferably in a larger church setting
  • Track record of successful and effective interpersonal relationships
  • Demonstrated excellence in leading others

Skills

  • Excellent team-based leadership abilities, contributing to a “strengths-based” environment
  • Exceptional management skills, including the ability to set and maintain boundaries
  • Outstanding work ethic; self-starter
  • Exceptional communication, relational and organizational skills
  • Passionate and relevant teacher who effectively communicates spiritual concepts to youth
  • Professional behavior and communication in a team-based staff environment
  • Humble spirit that continually desires to learn and improve
  • Understanding and support of Wesleyan theology
  • Emotional and spiritual maturity
  • Preaching Skills
  • Ability to appropriately manage conflict and opposition
  • Proficient computer skills, especially relevant Microsoft Office applications preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
