Job Summary

Reporting to our Processing Center Managerthe Transportation Supervisor is an important part of our organization as they interact with our donors dailyHe/she plays an important role in creating transportation program that will minimize transportation expenses, safeguard SVDP transportation equipment and ensure that we continue to receive needed donations from our donors. 

Job Description

JOB DUTIES: 

  • Manages transportation team and all daily aspects of the transportation department to ensure goals and store needs are met.  
  • Interacts with donors by telephone to schedule pick-ups/deliveries. Prepares donation receipts for materials picked up. Route out pickups and deliveries in the most efficient route.   
  • Contacts potential material donation partners (local stores/companies who sell/manufacture items that are useful to our thrift store operations) to ask for donations. 
  • Collaborates with the team to identify ways to improve department effectiveness; implements viable ideas. 
  • Communicates with team at the start of and at the end of shift. 
  • Works cooperatively with store management; views store personnel as customer base. 
  • Schedules pickups, deliveries, store shipments, and special activities in an effective and efficient manner. 
  • Serves as the point of contact for any questions that drivers have. Relays any issues relating to transportation to supervisor. Works with the lead driver on correcting any driver issues. 
  • Receives and reviews hiring applications, works with the lead driver to ensure all training of new employees is complete and accurate. 
  • Develops and coaches employees to maximize their individual potential. Evaluates employee performance on a regular basis. 
  • Responsible for making sure the daily vehicle inspections are done for all vehicles. Provides required safety equipment; ensures that all equipment is in working condition. 
  • Assesses emergency situations and act as the need indicates, reporting any situation in writing. 
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and complying with all state and federal safety and health regulations as well as company safety policy and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Experience and ability to utilize computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. 
  • Able to understand and to comply with company policies and procedures.
