Staff Accountant, B2B
The Staff Accountant supports the mission of Back2Back by providing accurate, timely, and trustworthy financial stewardship. This role ensures that funds entrusted to the ministry are recorded, protected, and reported with excellence. Through strong accounting practices, internal controls, and financial insight, this position equips leaders and sites to make wise decisions that advance care for children and families.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Accounting & Stewardship
- Manage accounts payable processing, including vendor payments, expense reimbursements, and corporate credit cards.
- Prepare accurate journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- File annual state license registrations.
- Maintain consistent accounting practices and protect the integrity of the chart of accounts.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Reporting & Analysis
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Maintain schedules to support annual audit and Form 990 preparation.
- Review financial information to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support leadership with reliable financial reports and insights for decision-making.
- Track restricted funds, grants, or designated giving as required.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Participate in the setup and improvement of financial systems and processes to support Back2Back’s expansion in new sites, partnerships, and acquisitions.
- Recommend improvements to workflows, controls, and efficiencies.
- Support automation, documentation, and global development of reporting dashboards.
Team & Ministry Support
- Cross-train to provide backup coverage for other Finance Team roles.
- Participate actively in Finance Team meetings, US Office meetings, learning tracks, and organizational events.
- Assist the Finance Director with additional responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ License/Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience
- Required: 3+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close responsibilities.
- Preferred: Experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, or supporting and preparing audit schedules.

- Demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret financial data.

- Demonstrate working knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial best practices.

Technology
- Required: experience with accounting software, proficiency with spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel), and basic competency in other Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Applications.
- Preferred: experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or Blackbaud NXT.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role is based in the Mason, Ohio, office and requires regular collaboration with staff and leadership, including international staff. The position involves typical professional office demands such as sitting or standing for extended periods, extensive computer use, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
