This Senior Program Manager of Community Engagement will focus on rural communities in Interact for Health’s 20-county service area.

Senior Program Manager of Community Engagement (Rural)

The Senior Program Manager of Community Engagement serves as Interact for Health’s presence in rural communities, representing Interact for Health to diverse audiences within communities, contributing to key community initiatives, and bringing knowledge of communities’ cultures, history, values, and landscape to inform decisions at all levels. This Senior Program Manager of Community Engagement will focus on rural communities in Interact for Health’s 20-county service area. The salary range for this position is $75,000-$95,000.

Reports to:  Vice President, Policy and Engagement

Supervises: contractors as needed

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Thought Leadership

  • Serve as a thought leader with respect to methods and best practices in authentic and effective community engagement
  • Share community insights internally with team members to inform Interact for Health’s strategic priorities
  • Embed Interact for Health’s organizational values and strategic approach throughout all aspects of work

Partner & Community Engagement

  • Develop a deep understanding of assigned communities, contributing expert knowledge of specified communities’ cultures, health trends, values, perspectives, and priorities to Foundation strategy and decision making
  • Serve as an ambassador for Interact for Health by developing and maintaining visibility in assigned communities, proactively serving as a contact for a wide range of community organizations and leaders whose interests intersect with Interact for Health’s strategies
  • Participate in key meetings, task forces, and events to strengthen and support community efforts to coalesce and form strategic alliances that address health justice and community power building strategies for assigned communities
  • Identify ways to invest in power-building ecosystems within designated communities
  • Develop understanding of efforts in community that support leadership development
  • Provide catalytic support (time, leadership and technical assistance) to selected community efforts or programs
  • Model Interact for Health’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by seeking and cultivating trusting relationships with external partners who historically have not had power and privilege in influencing public policy and systems

Grantmaking & Program Management

  • Manage a portfolio of grants, operating programs and other activities that contribute to the investment in community power building strategies (e.g., grassroots leadership development)

 Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Commitment to Interact for Health’s mission, vision and values
  • 5-10 years of field-related or foundation experience
  • Significant experience working in rural communities in OH, KY, and/or IN; experience in Interact for Health’s 20-county service area strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related disciple or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of the health issues within Interact for Health’s region
  • Commitment to listening to and incorporating feedback from partners and people with lived experience
  • Experience facilitating coalitions, networks, or collaborations of community partners
  • Experience providing value-added consultation to grantseekers and community partners
  • Experience using data in decision-making
  • Excellent leadership and communications skills
  • Excellent customer-service skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to manage complex relationships and coalitions
