The Mill Creek Alliance (MCA) Restoration Program Assistant contributes to our watershed
communities through our stream restoration program. Duties include leading volunteer-based restoration work parties and providing technical support for grant-funded environmental restoration projects. Work is located throughout the Mill Creek watershed.
Job Title: Restoration Program Assistant
SUMMARY: The Mill Creek Alliance (MCA) Restoration Program Assistant contributes to our watershed
communities through our stream restoration program. Duties include leading volunteer-based restoration work parties and providing technical support for grant-funded environmental restoration projects. Work is located throughout the Mill Creek watershed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stream Restoration Program Support:
● Conduct field work in developed and natural settings to monitor and maintain restoration sites
● Plan and lead stewardship activities in the field with volunteers that have a wide range of knowledge,
skills, physical abilities. Activities typically include removing invasive plants and litter, and installing
native plants.
● Maintain, modify, and/or further develop volunteerism standard operating procedures (SOPs).
● Support grant-funded project planning, grant writing, implementation, and financial record keeping
● Analyze environmental, fiscal, and public outreach data with MS Excel spreadsheets
● Create maps, tables, figures, and explanatory text
● Conduct oral and written research by telephone, the internet, and interacting with staff of city, county,
and state agencies.
● Develop educational materials for presentation to groups and for digital and print media
ADDITIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Engage with communities as well as local, state, and federal stakeholders to foster partnerships in
support of Mill Creek Alliance’s mission, vision, and values.
● Support environmental education programs as it relates to restoration
● Work with staff and Board committees to support, plan, and organize outreach & fundraising events.
● Track programs and participation using shared organizational calendars, documents, and resources.
● Perform other related duties assigned by the Executive Director.
● Participate in, and contribute to, strategic planning.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Work Experience
● College major or minor, or equivalent experience in: environmental engineering, planning, or
science; biology, or chemistry. Plant identification and outdoor education skills are preferred.
● Computer skills with: Better Impact or other volunteer management software, Microsoft Office Suite,
Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace. ArcGIS skills are preferred.
● Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
● Ability to work independently and in groups in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings
● Ability to work remotely and on site
● Flexible and positive attitude
● State-issued driver’s license is required along with access to reliable transportation.
COMPENSATION AND HOURS:
MCA employees are hired at-will. It is a part time (~29 hours per week) exempt position at $14.50/hour.
This is a 1-year position available in September, and has the potential for renewal. Office hours are flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monthly weekend and occasional evening hours are required. We offer part time employees a cell phone stipend and, if earned wages exceed $5,000, a SIMPLE IRA program with 3% employer match. Employees are paid twice a month.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:
This employee is supervised by the Restoration Director.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The duties of this job are performed both inside a climate-controlled office setting and outside, and at times in inclement weather. Specific duties and responsibilities are subject to change in response to seasonal calendar, project developments, external partnerships, and internal organizational activities.
The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Navigate uneven terrain. Use of
technology in the workplace can be expected daily (laptops, desktop, MS Office, Google Office Suite, office printers/scanners.) Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
