Third Presbyterian Church seeks a Program Coordinator to organize and sustain the Rec Center programs and activities, under the direction of the Program Director.  The ultimate goal for Third and its outreach to the East Westwood neighborhood is to end crime and violence, support children and young adults as they develop into mature adults, and to strengthen community ties and networks in a Christian church environment. The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director to help realize this long-term goal through daily tasks such as those listed below. This is a unique job in that coordination with volunteers from partner organizations are critical to its ultimate success.

Description of Third Presbyterian Church

Third Presbyterian Church is a revitalizing congregation of approximately fifty (50) members, with a robust presence in the East Westwood neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Third is a beacon of hope in a challenging neighborhood environment.  Thanks to dedicated members who love their neighborhood, Third is home to an after-school “Rec Center” for children, growing mentoring and tutoring ministries, a dynamic monthly breakfast for young men in the neighborhood, and host for community wide meetings. Presbytery partnerships have restored building and grounds, added a basketball court and outdoor recreation area, developed a community garden, and a strong pool of volunteers.  Third’s partner in this work is Knox Presbyterian Church, the largest church in the Cincinnati Presbytery.

Purpose of the Program Coordinator

Third Presbyterian Church seeks a Program Coordinator to organize and sustain the Rec Center programs and activities, under the direction of the Program Director.  The ultimate goal for Third and it’s outreach to the East Westwood neighborhood is to end crime and violence, support children and young adults as they develop into mature adults, and to strengthen community ties and networks in a Christian church environment. The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director to help realize this long-term goal through daily tasks such as those listed below. This is a unique job in that coordination with volunteers from partner organizations are critical to its ultimate success.

Responsibilities:

  • Review current programs and collaborate with partners to think strategically about all activities.
  • Manage, market and reach out to the community to engage people in current programs.
  • Assist with the startup of new programs taking them from ideas to full scale implementation when funding and necessary resources are available.
  • Coordinate recruitment, on-boarding, scheduling and training of neighborhood volunteers; work with Knox and other volunteer leaders with such recruitment and scheduling.
  • Manage volunteer sign up and church management systems (such as Signup Genius, Meal Train, Servant Keeper).
  • Create and provide program descriptions and pictures to be included in the Third Church web site, for grant applications and supporting partner churches such as Knox and the Cincinnati Presbytery.
  • Review program level budgets and report to both Third and Knox Church committees on income and expenses.
  • Track program participation and generate monthly and annual reports of such participation.
  • Assist Church leadership with grant proposals by providing program participation statistics and program success narratives or stories.
  • Create communications going out to the community about events and programs via social media and other innovative approaches.
  • Follow all protocols and rules of the Third Presbyterian Church related to child safety and health.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organization and program management skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer technologies used to manage programs and create marketing materials.
  • Ability to move ideas to effective implementation.
  • Strong communication and team skills to work with the Third and Knox staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Experience and/or college level study in social work and/or community organizing desirable.
  • Comfort working in a Christian, faith-based environment.

Hours and Compensation:

  • This is a 40 hour/week, salaried position, including weekly evening and some weekend responsibilities.
  • Salary will be based on education and work experience, starting at $50,000.
  • Benefits through the Presbyterian Church USA Board of Pensions will be provided.
