Position Summary:
The Major Gift Officer (MGO) is a key member of CHNK’s Philanthropy Team, responsible for building and managing meaningful relationships with individual and corporate donors to support the organization’s annual fundraising goals and long-term philanthropic priorities, including a $38 million campaign. This position oversees a personal portfolio of 80+ donors and prospects, utilizing a strategic moves management approach to guide identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.

 

Working in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, Philanthropy Team Manager, and other members of CHNK’s Leadership Team, the MGO plays a vital role in sustaining and growing charitable support. The position requires the ability to secure appointments with prospective donors, support donor stewardship activities, and ensure timely and accurate recording of donor, volunteer, and gift information in coordination with the development operations team.

 

The MGO also supports the engagement of board members and organizational leaders in the major gifts process, provides strategic insight on donor communications, and contributes to the overall success and professionalism of CHNK’s philanthropic efforts. A high degree of discretion, confidentiality, and initiative is required, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. The role is instrumental in protecting and enhancing CHNK’s visibility and reputation within the community.

 

Essential Job Functions
•     Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Philanthropy Team Manager to set strategic
direction for the major gifts program and capital campaign initiatives.
•     Manage a personal portfolio of 100+ qualified major gift prospects, with a focus on donors 
capable of giving $10,000 or more.
•     Develop and execute individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies using a moves 
management approach.
•     Conduct 10+ donor visits per month, including qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and 
stewardship activities.
•     Partner with the CEO and board members to coordinate and support 50+ high-level solicitations annually, aligned with organizational priorities.
•     Work with the Donor Database and Engagement Specialist to ensure accurate tracking of donor activity in Raiser’s Edge NXT and prospect research tools such as WealthEngine.

•     Ensure timely and meaningful stewardship of all major gift donors to build long-term 
engagement and loyalty. 

•     Collaborate with the Development Team to align fundraising efforts, contribute to shared 
goals, and participate in team-wide campaign activities.
•     Contribute to the growth of CHNK’s planned giving pipeline through targeted outreach and 
relationship building with identified prospects.
•     Support strategic donor communications and provide guidance to the CEO, board members, and other staff engaged in major gift fundraising. Implement an effective major gift donor stewardship program acknowledging major donors through public and private recognition.
•     Prepare tailored proposals, presentations, and communications to support donor engagement and gift solicitation.

 

Performance Expectations:
•     Maintain a portfolio of 100+ qualified major gift prospects focused on major gift donors 
($10,000+) and institutional relationships.
•     Conduct a minimum of 15+ meaningful contacts per month, including cultivation and stewardship communications.
•     Complete 10+ face-to-face or virtual donor visits per month (may include qualification, 
solicitation, or stewardship).
•     Partner with the CEO and board members to advance 50 high-level solicitations annually  
aligned with donor capacity and interest. Average gift size $25,000+
•     Secure 1.5M+ in major gifts annually, depending on the maturity of the portfolio and campaign cycle.
•     Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all donor interactions in the database.

 

Required Skill Sets and Previous Experience
•     Must have a minimum of a four-year degree from accredited college or university.
•     A minimum of 7 years fundraising experience, with at least 5 in major gift fundraising.
•     Demonstrate experience and ability to be successful in face-to-face solicitation.
•     Sound administrative skills and computer/technology proficiency
•     Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
•     Represent CHNK Behavioral Health in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with the Association of fundraising Professionals Code of ethics with donors, prospects and in all aspects of work in the community.
•     Self-starter
•     Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and relationships.
•     Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
•     Ability to thrive in a team environment.
•     Must support the purpose, vision, and core values of CHNK Behavioral Health.
