Job Summary

Independence Alliance, Greater Cincinnati’s only Center for Independent Living (CIL), is a non-residential, private nonprofit organization designed and operated by a majority of people with disabilities. We are seeking an Independent Living Specialist to join our Core Services team and assist people with disabilities achieve greater independence, self-determination, and community inclusion.

Job Description

Position Summary

The Independent Living Specialist provides individualized and group Independent Living Skills Training and Peer Support to adults with disabilities throughout Greater Cincinnati. This position is ideal for a creative, innovative, and highly organized professional who enjoys developing innovative ideas, solving problems, building relationships, and helping people identify and achieve their own goals.

The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional data tracking and documentation skills. The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and timely follow-through is essential.

Schedule: Part-time, 22.5–25 hours per week without benefits, with potential to transition to full-time employment. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
Pay: $20–$22 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
Travel: Valid driver’s license, and auto insurance required with reliable transportation for travel throughout Southwest Ohio. Mileage reimbursement provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments and work collaboratively with consumers to identify goals, strengths, and barriers to independence.
  • Develop and implement individualized Independent Living Plans.
  • Provide engaging one-on-one and group Independent Living Skills training in areas such as daily living, money management, employment, mobility, self-advocacy, and community participation.
  • Facilitate and support Peer Support Groups.
  • Develop innovative and creative training topics, materials, activities, and resources that respond to emerging needs and interests.
  • Build effective relationships with community organizations, service providers, and other partners.
  • Conduct outreach to unserved and underserved people with disabilities.
  • Participate in community presentations and educational activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely consumer documentation and exceptional records of contacts, services, outcomes, referrals, and follow-up activities.
  • Track and maintain program data to support reporting, outcome measurement, quality improvement, and informed decision-making.
  • Maintain current disability-related resource information and databases.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to email, telephone, and in-person inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, disability studies, rehabilitation, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities and/or in a disability-related organization preferred.
  • Commitment to the principles of independent living, consumer choice, self-determination, and community inclusion.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately record, track, organize, and manage data and documentation.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, email, and video conferencing.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative approaches to service delivery.
  • Strong initiative, time-management skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Professional, responsive, and person-centered approach to service.
  • Personal experience with disability preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance required.
