Job Summary

Appeals for grants and foundation funds specific to the Cincinnati region.  Keeps a record of grant activity, timelines and deadlines, and works with other staff and departments as needed to complete grant applications following Salvation Army procedures.  This position is primarily responsible for writing grants needed for Greater Cincinnati Operations and an annual fundraising goal is assigned to this position.

Job Description

Duties include:

  • Manages relations with current and new funding partners to provide financial support for The Salvation Army mission, including general operating, program, capacity, and capital funding.
  • Works with Greater Cincinnati Operations to assign and determine grant pursuits. 
  • Follows The Salvation Army protocol for grant applications and ensures all grant activity is entered into the Salesforce and Contracts databases.
  • Provides consultation and advisement on grants and grant opportunities to all Divisional Corps. 
  • Collaborates with other TSA grant writers locally, regionally, and should larger gifts be a possibility with partnership.
  • Maintain complete files, copies of proposals, cover letters, attachments, transmittal letters from funder, thank you letters, copy of check(s), running log of telephone and other contacts with fund, copies of reports, etc.
  • Identify funding needs/priorities with supervisor and relevant SA staff and officers.
  • Establish and maintain staff relationships necessary to obtain program and budget information needed to complete accurate and successful proposals.
  • Provide outstanding stewardship of funds and donor cultivation.
  • Become knowledgeable of The Salvation Army, its mission and all of the specific programs and projects needing funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of relevant education or experience
  • Previous grant or persuavise writing experience
  • Strong written, communication and business skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to relate professionally and effectively with key constituencies (internal and external), and able to manage sensitive situations and confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with donor database applications.  Salesforce or CRM work a plus.
  • Work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Collaborative and energetic team player
