Finance Manager, LHOI
The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. They will work closely with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer to develop and implement financial strategies that support our mission and goals. They will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including IRS requirements.

Reports To: Executive Director
Employee Type: Part-time; 20-30 hours per week; Monday thru Friday
Overview:
The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. They will work closely with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer to develop and implement financial strategies that support our mission and goals. They will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including IRS requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Accounting
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking activities.
- Prepare and review invoices and purchase orders.
- Manage all aspects of payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in payroll administration, including compliance (timekeeping, tax filings, benefits coordination).
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts monthly.
- Maintain accurate general ledger, journals, and financial records.
- Ensure adequate cashflow to meet the organization’s needs, including short-term and medium-term cash flow projections. Advising leadership on timing of operations relative to funding .
- Assist in annual budget development, budget-to-actual monitoring, variance analysis, and forecasting.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Working alongside the Board Treasurer:
- Develop, implement, and maintain systems of internal controls, including accounting and administrative policies/ procedures, to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
- Monitor banking activities of the organization.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Coordinate, analyze, and report the financial performance to the Executive Director and Board Finance Committee.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including the preparation and timely filing of all required tax returns.
- Oversee the coordination and activities of independent accountants ensuring all tax reporting and audit issues are resolved.
Grant and Donor Focus
Working alongside the Executive Director:
- Serve as a key point of contact for financial matters with donors and grantors.
- Provide financial oversight and management of grants and contracts.
- Provide financial analysis and support for fundraising activities.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure proper documentation and compliance with grant and donor requirements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to stakeholders.
Support and Analysis
- Provide financial analysis and support for program managers and leadership, as requested.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial alignment and support organizational goals.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector but not required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Mission-driven and passionate about the organization’s cause.
