Job Description
Serve City is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead our faith-based nonprofit organization serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Hamilton and Butler County, Ohio.
For more than 25 years, Serve City has provided shelter, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing rooted in the love of Jesus Christ. Our operations include a 52-bed homeless shelter along with multiple transitional and permanent supportive housing properties.
The Executive Director serves as the chief leader and public representative of Serve City, providing strategic direction, operational oversight, financial stewardship, and spiritual leadership. This individual will lead staff, cultivate donor and community relationships, and ensure the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of the organization’s programs and services.
This position requires a biblically based personal relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with Serve City’s Statement of Faith, as required of all leadership team members.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Develop and implement organizational strategic plans in partnership with the Board of Directors
- Identify future opportunities and needs within the continuum of care for individuals experiencing homelessness
- Provide visionary leadership that advances the mission and impact of Serve City
Community & Church Engagement
- Build and strengthen partnerships with churches, donors, community organizations, government agencies, and volunteers
- Represent Serve City publicly throughout Butler County and the surrounding region
- Educate community stakeholders about Serve City’s mission, programs, and services
Spiritual Leadership
- Co-minister the love of Jesus Christ to individuals in need of food, clothing, and shelter
- Support efforts that help residents increase self-sufficiency and strengthen their connection to God
- Foster a Christ-centered organizational culture
Financial Stewardship
- Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and long-term financial sustainability
- Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources and assets
- Collaborate with the Board regarding financial planning and accountability
Fundraising & Development
- Lead fundraising strategy and revenue generation efforts
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors and funding partners
- Support fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement initiatives
Operational Leadership
- Provide oversite of shelter operations, transitional housing, and supportive housing programs
- Ensure a safe, dignified, and effective environment for residents, staff, and volunteers
- Maintain strong organizational systems and operational efficiency
Personnel Management
- Lead, mentor, and support staff members
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professional growth, and mutual respect
- Ensure effective communication across the organization
Grant & Facilities Management
- Identify, secure, and manage local, state, and federal grants
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting standards
- Provide oversite to facilities improvement and maintenance plans
Qualifications
Required
- 4+ years of experience in homeless services or related human services fields
- Proven leadership and organizational management experience
- Strong budgeting and financial oversight experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to lead effectively in high-pressure and rapidly changing environments
- Active involvement in a local church
- Demonstrated Christian faith and agreement with Serve City’s Statement of Faith
Preferred
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising and donor relations
- Experience managing grants and government funding
