Job Summary

The Divisional Grant Writer takes the lead in writing, reviewing, editing and compiling funding applications and reports for non-governmental grants and foundation funds for Salvation Army locations in the Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky Division and supporting these locations with grant applications and processing.  Keeps detailed record of annual grant activity, timelines, and deadlines and works collaboratively with other staff and departments as needed to complete grant applications.

Job Description

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsible for full grant cycles, research, proposal development and reporting of any grants which are written and/or supported by this position.

Evaluates, manages, and stewards relations with current and new funding partners to provide financial support for The Salvation Army mission, including general operating, program, capatity, and capital funding.

Identifies new funding applications based on Corps Officer and DHQ requests.

Collaborate with Corps Officers, Program Managers and staff from The Salvation Army to understand the prioritized needs for grant funding and persuasively relay those needs to further develop existing relationships with funders and/or research new opportunities to meet needs for funding.

Aids with grant applications and grant opportunities to all Divisional Corps.  Support may include consulting; research grant opportunities, application processes, sharing deadlines for application and follow-up; writing; editing; obtain required documents for application process; and outlining/facilitating the process for obtaining Territorial Headquarters legal review and approval of proposals and grant contract agreements.

Provides outstanding stewardship of funds and donor cultivation, e.g., acknowledging gifts, delivering proposals, sending updates and sharing success stories.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.

Previous grant or pursuasive writing experiences.

Strong written, communication and business skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with donor database applications; Salesforce or CRM work a plus.

Must understand and appreciate the mission of The Salvation Army.
