A leader in the Cincinnati building materials “re-use” community, Building Value is an Easterseals Redwood (ESRW) social enterprise. For almost 20 years, Building Value has focused on workforce development and helping people of color and women prepare for living wage careers in construction related industries. Using our “work-hardening” training model (hands-on, job site experience), we teach and train using our deconstruction & salvage services, along with our hardscape & outdoor living space installation services. Our green deconstruction and salvage efforts help the environment by diverting tons of materials from city landfills, every year. All reusable materials salvaged and reclaimed by our teams, as well as donated building materials, are resold at our Building Value- Retail Store. Building Value’s work broadens our impact on the community and supports the mission and programs of Building Value and Easterseals Redwood.

 

Opportunity:

We are seeking the next Director of Building Value. As the current Director nears retirement, we are looking for the next dynamic leader to take the reins at Building Value and build on its 20-yearlegacy. With the 20th anniversary of Building Value (in 2024), the new Director will have direct input into the vision, strategies, and operations which will drive the next decade of Building Value’s impact and growth. You will have the opportunity to engage and partner with a broad cross section of Cincinnati and community leaders in business, construction trades, social/human services, government, education, and philanthropy as you promote the brand, mission, and business services of Building Value.

This position is engaged in the business and mission daily, and leads a collaborative management team to achieve impact and results. The ideal candidate is a mission driven individual who is passionate about people and business, and has the drive to make an immediate impact on the growth and strategy of the business, and in the lives of the individuals we serve.This position reports directly to the V.P. of Social Enterprise.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • The face of the organization (business) to the community, partners, customers, stake holders, and donors
  • Drive the success of the ESRW mission through the strategy, direction, and accountability to each of Building Value’s business segments
  • Evaluate each of the business segments for long term profitability and sustainability, managingthe total P/L for Building Value
  • Implement and enforce operational focus and accountability in each area of the enterprise
  • An ambassador of Building Value and Easterseals Redwood- promoting the mission (workforce development), our people, our brand, and our business services
  • Identify and develop new partnerships and opportunities and help build/grow the long-term sustainability of the enterprise. Actively participate in business development and material acquisition efforts.
  • Lead Building Value’s management team to maximize the Mission and program impact. Oversees leadership of Deconstruction/Demo, Hardscaping, and Retail.
  • Work with and expand existing relationships with top tier clients including the Cincinnati Zoo, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the Cincinnati Port Authority, 3CDC, Messer Construction, and others
  • Assist with the development and execution of annual budgets and sales & marketing strategies
  • Participate as a member of the Easterseals Redwood- Directors and Leadership Team
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends- Participate in industry associations and networking opportunities to keep abreast of industry trends and opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Construction or construction related/adjacent industry experience
  • Proven success leading and operating a complex business or business segment
  • High business acumen with strong fiscal and operations management experience. Proven ability to develop and manage budgets and achieve financial results
  • Track record of success in business development and/or building partnerships
  • Accountability mindset- Ability to motivate and lead employees, and hold them accountable
  • Strategic thinker- Experience in vision setting, and developing sales & marketing and operational improvement plans
  • History of strong decision-making prowess with proven results
  • Exhibits balance between entrepreneurial spirit and operational focus
  • Well-connected in community involvement/engagement is a plus
  • Good with people management- Excellent communication, collaboration, and delegation skillsacross all levels
  • Effective time management and ability to manage multiple variables daily
  • Comfortable working in various work environments: Job site, office, retail store, community
  • Experience and/or solid understanding of social service/ social enterprise is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral & written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, .PPT, SharePoint, and MS Teams) is a must. Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge and usage of Social Media platforms for business use is a plus

Compensation:

Building Value (Easterseals Redwood) offers great benefits!

  • Salary range: $80,000-95,000 commensurate with experience.
