Job Description

Development Specialist

The Development Specialist plays a key role in advancing Queen City Book Bank’s fundraising efforts and community engagement. This position is responsible for planning and executing signature events, supporting annual giving campaigns, and cultivating relationships with partners and sponsors. The ideal candidate is strategic, highly organized, detail-oriented, and energized by bringing people together to support a meaningful mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Signature Event: Gala for Literacy

  • Lead the planning and execution of the annual Gala for Literacy
  • Manage all event logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, timelines, and on-site execution
  • Secure sponsorships and solicit in-kind and monetary donations
  • Collaborate with internal team members to develop invitations, messaging, and outreach strategy
  • Manage event platform (Greater Giving) including guest tracking, registrations, and donations
  • Ensure a seamless and engaging experience for attendees, sponsors, and volunteers

Annual Giving Campaign

  • Partner with Marketing Coordinator and leadership to develop and execute the annual letter campaign
  • Support content creation and distribution strategy to drive donor engagement and contributions
  • Track performance and support follow-up communications

Special Events & Partnerships

  • Coordinate and support third-party fundraising events where QCBB is a beneficiary (e.g., golf outings, give-back programs, community events, etc.)
  • Serve as a liaison to partners, ensuring strong relationships and successful collaboration
  • Identify and help develop opportunities for new sponsorships and partnerships
  • Support planning of internal or milestone-based events as appropriate

Marketing & Communications Support

  • Collaborate with Marketing Coordinator and team members to provide content for email campaigns (Constant Contact), social media, and website
  • Coordinate and execute photo opportunities to highlight programs, volunteers, and impact
  • Support Marketing Coordinator in development of materials for the annual fund, press releases, and storytelling initiatives

Data & Systems Management

  • Work closely with the Director of Finance to maintain accurate records in Greater Giving
  • Track event attendance, donations, sponsorships, and related expenses
  • Support reporting and data integrity across fundraising activities

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in event planning, fundraising, nonprofit development, or related field preferred
  • Familiarity with fundraising platforms (e.g., Greater Giving) and email marketing tools (e.g., Constant Contact) a plus
  • Collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset

Additional Details

  • Monday–Friday, 30 - 35 hours per week (Part-time or Full-time considered)
  • Occasional evenings, weekends
