Community Relations Coordinator

The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for engaging individuals, groups, and organizations in meaningful volunteer experiences that support the mission of DCCH Center for Children and Families. This role focuses on recruiting, onboarding, training, tracking, and recognizing volunteers—including individuals, interns, mentors, and corporate or community groups. The Coordinator also co-leads major volunteer initiatives and events such as the ThanksforGiving volunteer and donor recognition event and the Holiday Helpers program and Swing into Spring.

Position Summary:
The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for engaging individuals, groups, and organizations in meaningful volunteer experiences that support the mission of DCCH Center for Children and Families. This role focuses on recruiting, onboarding, training, tracking, and recognizing volunteers—including individuals, interns, mentors, and corporate or community groups. The Coordinator also co-leads major volunteer initiatives and events such as the ThanksforGiving volunteer and donor recognition event and the Holiday Helpers program and Swing into Spring.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Engagement and Coordination
- Actively recruit and invite individuals, students, professionals, and community groups to share their time and talents as DCCH volunteers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers, ensuring an engaging and rewarding experience.
- Serve as the liaison and primary point of contact for all volunteers, including responding to inquiries, matching opportunities to skills, and ensuring clear communication.
- Represent DCCH at community events, fairs, and partner functions to promote volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer Onboarding, Training, and Support
- Facilitate onboarding and orientation for all new volunteers, interns, and mentors.
- Ensure compliance with required background checks and paperwork.
- Provide necessary training and ongoing support to help volunteers be successful in their roles.
- Track volunteer hours, service types, and impact in Every Action database.
Volunteer Recognition and Events
- Plan and execute volunteer appreciation efforts during National Volunteer Appreciation Month and Week, including written recognition, spotlight features, and small events.
- Co-lead the planning and execution of the ThanksforGiving Event, a key annual celebration recognizing both volunteers and donors.
- Support and recognize ongoing volunteer contributions through creative, personalized, and mission-aligned recognition.
Program Support and Special Initiatives
- Co-lead the Holiday Helpers Program, coordinating community partners who provide food, gifts, and essential items to children and families in all DCCH Center programs.
- Support the coordination and volunteer efforts required to execute the annual Swing into Spring fundraising event.
- Provide staff leadership for volunteer components within other agency events and initiatives.
Reporting and Administration
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and impact using internal tracking tools.
- Submit monthly reports detailing volunteer activity and engagement, including a list of pending volunteer groups.
- Provide content and data for monthly Board reports.
- Collaborate closely with Advancement and Program staff to align volunteer engagement with organizational goals.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, social work, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, community outreach, or nonprofit program support.
- Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer tracking software (e.g., VolunteerHub, SignUpGenius, etc.).
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events and volunteer activities.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and compassionate culture of DCCH Center.
