Job Summary

Adventure Crew is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting city teens in Greater Cincinnati with nature and each other through engaging outdoor adventures. Founded in 2013, the nonprofit now serves Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) high and junior high schools and select schools in Northern Kentucky – a total of 33 schools and a roster of nearly 1,000 students per year. Through challenging monthly adventures, city teens develop the courageous spirit to step out of their comfort zone and discover new worlds – outside in nature and inside themselves. This deep connection to nature will set a positive course for their lives – and help create the next generation of environmental stewards.

The Community Engagement Specialist helps coordinate events that strengthen ties between Adventure Crew and the community. Primarily, this role will help plan and execute Adventure Crew’s community events, including Ohio River Paddlefest and the Great Ohio River Swim.

Job Description

Skills & Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong verbal and written communication skills, a high level of organization, excellent time management, and the ability to creatively problem solve. Familiarity with Ohio River Paddlefest and/or experience coordinating events is preferred.

Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 40 pounds and significant time standing and moving across large areas for major events and programs. Select events require 12+ hour workdays.

Primary Duties

● Set up and maintain event registration systems

● Recruit and manage event exhibitors

● Provide timely responses to event participants’ emails and phone calls

● Submit necessary permits and paperwork (city, state, and federal)

● Coordinate with local partners and vendors, issuing contracts as needed

● Submit orders for event equipment, services and logistical support

● Organize inventory of event supplies and merchandise

● Support event communications (social media, enewsletter, etc.)

● Handle on-site event logistics, including driving a cargo van

● Represent Adventure Crew at external community engagement opportunities and tabling events

Position Details: This role requires seasonal flexibility, with increased workload in the summer months. There is a guarantee of 980 hours annually for this position. with a blend of work-from-home (in Cincinnati area) and office in Camp Washington, based on seasonal needs and with approval of Supervisor. Some evening and weekend work is required. Average 20 hours/week, with increased hours in summer: 

Q1 (Sept-Nov) – 10-15 hrs/wk

Q2 (Dec-Feb) – 10-15 hrs/wk

Q3 (Mar-May) – 20-30 hrs/wk

Q4 (June-Aug) – 30-40 hrs/wk

Compensation: $22-$25/hour

Required Days: The Community Engagement Specialist must be available for the following 2027 event dates:

● Ohio River Paddlefest and Outdoors for All Expo, August 6-7

● Great Ohio River Swim, August 29 and September 12
