Job Summary

The College/Alumni Success Coordinator identifies best practices for college access, affordability and success initiatives; supports finding resources for Boys Hope Girls Hope collegians and alumni, and assists online and on-ground training and related evaluations to staff to support college-preparation and post-secondary programming. 

Job Description

The primary objective for the College/Alumni Success Coordinator is to ensure that scholars, collegians, and alumni demonstrate academic excellence, complete post-secondary education, and enter careers ready to adapt and contribute to an ever-changing world. He or she helps establish Boys Hope Girls Hope as a role model in the field that utilizes best practices for industry-leading outcomes.

Education and Experience and Certifications- Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus experience working in academic advising, alumni programs, academic recruitment/retention, experience working with first generation college students and families preferred
  • Associate degree + 5 years of experience working in academic advising, alumni programs, academic recruitment/retention, experience working with first generation college students and families preferred
  • OR High School Diploma degree + 7 years of experience working in academic advising, alumni programs, academic recruitment/retention, experience working with first generation college students and families preferred
  • 2 years of leadership/project management experience
  • Experience with online E-learning platforms (e.g., Google Classrooms)
  • Driver’s license with current insurance
  • Minimum age of 21

 Job Requirements- Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Ability to work flexible hours when required with most hours in the evening, occasionally including weekends
  • Must be able to produce quality, error-free work and take initiative to complete projects as needed or assigned
  • Willingness to pitch-in and fill the needs of team including interacting with scholars in residential and Academy

 Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Affiliates and Network Headquarter, collect and compile best practices in post-secondary preparation, practicum and internship engagement, collegian support through degree completion, and career transition.
  • With the Mission Effectiveness Team, coordinate the linkage of Affiliates across the network for the discovery, interchange and implementation of ideas, solutions, and best practices specific to college access, college affordability, and college success by co-facilitating on-line, teleconference, and in person dialogue.
  • Manage all activities related to the BHGH Scholarship Program that provides additional financial resources for collegians; serve as BHGH Scholarship primary point-of-contact for Network Headquarters and local affiliate staff, BHGH scholars and BHGH collegians.
  • Manage all activities related to BHGH Cincinnati Alumni chapter, maintain alumni database and contact information, and allocate additional resources to collegians transition from school to career.
  • With the help of Program leadership, coordinate and plan annual program success events including, but not limited to, Graduation Party, Signing Day and Collegian/Alumni Holiday Parties.
  • In partnership with the Program Success Team, design and deliver annual summer program for scholars focused on transition to college and related preparation, college tours, personal enrichment, career exploration, and leadership development.
  • Planning college visits with the assistance of the Academic Success Coordinator, Academy Success Coordinator and facilitate travel arrangements, point of contacts, and itinerary.
  • Serve as the career and job resource coordinator for collegians
  • Providing resources and experiences that assist scholars in identifying interests and aptitudes relating to discernment of future college majors starting with scholars in sophomore year of high school.
  • Assist with freshmen orientation scheduling including coordinate moving in/returning to school, supplies, scholarship allocation.
  • Identify and implement year-round programming to meet the evolving needs of scholars as they advance from middle through high school, supporting strategies towards achieving post-secondary enrollment and sustaining career readiness and success for both residential and Academy scholars.
  • Assist with placement exams/entry exams, applications, scholarships, and financial aid applications and verifications to post-secondary education programs. Set up and accompany scholars on college tours and meet with admissions.
  • Identify and maintain relationships with post-secondary support programs and professionals who will be critical contacts for BHGH collegians.
  • Provide case management assistance for non-collegian alumni on an as-needed basis.
  • Regular Contact with Program Success Team and Program Director
  • In collaboration with Academic Success and Academy Success assist with PSAT/SAT/ACT test prep and study sessions for all scholars starting in sophomore year.
  • Connection with the broader BHGH community and volunteer network to identify resources to support collegians and alumni
  • Regular communication with BHGH collegians and alumni
  • Publish Monthly Collegian/ Alumni Newsletter and complete monthly reports/ data request as requested.
  • Meet the academic, physical, emotional, social, spiritual development needs of collegians in the program and Boys Hope Girls Hope program policies.
  • Conduct Monthly Check-in’s virtual and or in-person with collegian and alumni, documented in PPM
  • Identify and maintain relationships with post-secondary support programs and professionals who will be critical contacts for BHGH collegians.
  • Evaluate and recommend activities and strategies to increase alumni engagement. Support alumni activities & events.
  • As with life, priorities and duties can shift or be added to be as effective as possible for our scholars.

Mathematical:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Reasoning:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer:

Ability to learn and utilize Windows based computers and a variety of other devices. Ability to learn and utilize various software programs or applications.

Other:

Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks satisfactorily. Ability to perform duties in full compliance with requirements of the organization. Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff and scholars. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.

Work Environment:

This is a professional position that requires some travel within the area. Occasional travel within the US may also be required to attend meetings and training. This position requires the ability to closely monitor the whereabouts and activities of pre-adolescent and adolescent children in a multi-story home, as well as the ability to safely transport children in program vehicles, in accordance to BHGH and local licensing standards. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Physical Requirements:

While performing this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, grasp, and use repetitive motions. Individuals may also frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of materials. Specific vision abilities include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, or computer/device screens, and distance vision such as reading a projector screen, and the ability to adjust focus.
