Job Summary

Breakthrough Cincinnati (BTC) is looking for an innovative, experienced and driven individual to lead our organization.  Breakthrough Cincinnati provides a rigorous four-year college-preparatory summer learning program for high-need and high-potential middle school students while inspiring and training college students to become the next generation of teachers. The Executive Director Is responsible for advancing the mission and strategic plan of the organization reporting to the Board of Directors.  Primary responsibilities include fundraising, fiscal management, driving sustainable growth and partnership opportunities, marketing, evaluation of results and leading a committed team.

Job qualifications:

Required:

  • A positive attitude and strong desire to impact the lives of young people and education
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, and collaborative problem-solving skills that foster a professional team environment
  • A bachelor’s degree in education or a closely related field
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising
  • Experience building program and proposal budgets
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with diverse groups externally and internally
  • Experience with essential office technology such as Microsoft office, Google suite 

 

Preferred:

  • Relevant graduate degree and/or certifications
  • Experience with board relations and the ability to guide and motivate board participation
  • Supervisory experience with a track record of developing people, addressing HR needs, and leading culture change 
  • Demonstrated financial and negotiating skills; short and long term planning expertise
  • Experience with AmeriCorp grants
  • Experience with Salesforce

Job duties:

Administration – 35%

  • Develop and implement the operational plan that aligns to the strategic plan  
  • Direct the operations of the organization and oversee programs seeking continuous improvement in results, quality and efficiency
  • Implement board policies, act as the primary liaison between the Chair of the Board, the Board of Directors and the staff of the organization
  • Maintain and ensure BTC conforms to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations in partnership with the Board of Directors to remain in good standing
  • Lead the recruitment processes of summer staff and students
  • Oversee the marketing and promotion of BTC
  • Manage human resources needs, benefit administration and vendor coordination

Development– 35% 

  • Manage Development Director. Create and direct fundraising strategy including the development and stewardship of individual donor, foundation, corporate giving and government funding programs
  • Develop relationships with funders, community leaders, and stakeholders. Leveraging board involvement, serve as the ambassador of the organization to donors, attending the events and cultivation meetings 
  • Develop and implement a sustainable annual and capital giving program while identifying new funding opportunities
  • Research, prepare, write and submit grant proposals, including government grants, for funding and track in Salesforce

Supervision – 20%

  • Foster a healthy diverse culture by using proactive problem-solving skills, supporting team members, demonstrating curiosity, embracing improved systems and processes, and assisting with the continuous improvement of BTC 
  • Supervise Program Directors, Development Director and Americorps Manager in the management of individual programs and provide leadership, coaching, evaluation and support 
  • Supervise VISTAs in their work focused on BTC’s capacity growth

Partnerships and Evaluation– 10%   

  • Generate revenue and growth through sustainable partnerships
  • Manage consultant partner on evaluation/data projects
  • Develop appropriate outcomes and evaluation systems collaboratively with Program Directors, partners and funders 
  • Collaborate with Breakthrough Collaborative (National) to ensure support and alignment as a leading affiliate
