Job Description

United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) is in search of a dynamic, purpose-driven, creative Associate to support the Community Impact Team, primarily dedicated to working on the Black-led Social Change initiative with other projects and responsibilities as assigned. This associate will support the management and operations of current projects while lending support and creativity to launch new work.

The Black-led Social Change initiative exists because we are compelled to support spaces and provide resources to imagine and bring to life unencumbered, self-determined Black futures. As a philanthropic organization, we see that there is an over-representation of Black families experiencing poverty and an underinvestment in community-based, Black-led expertise. Aligned to our organization’s commitment to systems change (tackling deep-rooted problems that hold families back and building solutions that ensure economic wellbeing for all), this work takes an equity lens and examines our role in those systems.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the equity and systems change with a track record of rolling up their sleeves to get things done.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide key day-to-day logistical support, inclusive of monitoring the initiative email box and phone line.
  • Serve as a representative of the Community Impact team in general and the Black-led Social Change team specifically at community events, corporate engagements, conferences, presentations, and meetings.
  • Collaborate with the director, senior associate and other UWGC staff to carry out the Black Empowerment Works grant process and program. Support key elements of design and execution which may include but is not limited to content creation, volunteer management, outreach and communications.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts through data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Provide support in building an ecosystem of support for Black changemakers, including but not limited to:
    • Supporting a portfolio of community partners, building authentic and trust-based relationships.
    • Facilitating engagement through the Mobilize platform, and digital engagement platform.
    • Hosting in-person and virtual convenings.
    • Supporting opportunities for Changemakers to share their expertise with the broader community.
    • Supporting learning sessions and funding opportunities to build the capacity of changemakers.
  • Support the execution of the Champions of Change, a one-year leadership and design program. This includes but is not limited to preparing and sending materials, supporting follow-up and other logistical needs.
  • Provide key support to other teams within the Community Impact team as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One to three years of work experience, with some experience in managing volunteers (preferred).
  • Must have a passion for equity work and social justice. Working knowledge of Greater Cincinnati community is an asset.
  • Strong relationship building skills: active listening, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence with the ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and public speaking skills. Comfort with presenting in front of large audiences.
  • Strong time management skills, with experience balancing multiple projects.
  • Passion for learning, with the ability to absorb information quickly.
  • Comfort with technology, with the ability to learn and adapt to new platforms.
  • Personal attributes: curious, creative, passionate, diligent, personable/approachable, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Minimal local travel to events within the region.
  • Regular evening and some weekend responsibilities.

Salary starting low 40's plus competitive benefits package.
